Conference Location

We are delighted to welcome participants to the 70th Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale, scheduled from July 7 to 11, 2025, at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, located at Nám. J. Palacha 2, 116 38, Prague 1. This central location places attendees in the heart of Prague, offering convenient access to the city’s historical and cultural landmarks.

Accommodation

July is a peak tourist season in Prague, and the conference venue is in the very heart of the city. We strongly recommend booking accommodation as soon as possible to secure availability and preferred lodging options. Prague offers a wide variety of accommodations, from luxury hotels and boutique guesthouses to budget-friendly hostels and university dormitories. Participants may choose from hotels within walking distance of the Faculty of Arts or explore other options across the city.

Public Transportation

Prague has an efficient and easy-to-navigate public transportation system, consisting of metro lines, trams, and buses. The metro includes three lines:

Key transfer stations include Můstek (Lines A and B), Muzeum (Lines A and C), and Florenc (Lines B and C). The nearest metro station to the conference venue is Staroměstská (Line A). Trams and buses also provide convenient transport across the city. Tickets are valid for all public transit options and can be purchased at metro stations, newsstands, or via mobile apps.

Visitor Information

Prague is one of Europe’s most visited cities, offering a rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant cultural life. Beyond the conference, participants will have the opportunity to explore numerous attractions, historical sites, and local experiences.

Cultural and Historical Landmarks: The Old Town Square, with its famous Astronomical Clock, is just a short walk from the conference venue. Other must-visit sites include Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, and the Jewish Quarter (Josefov). The National Museum and the Museum of Decorative Arts are also excellent options for those interested in history and art.

Dining and Local Cuisine: Prague offers a wide range of restaurants, cafés, and traditional pubs. We recommend trying Czech specialties such as svíčková (marinated beef with creamy sauce), guláš, and the famous Czech beer. Many restaurants in the Old Town cater to international visitors, but for a more authentic experience, consider dining in Lesser Town (Malá Strana) or Vinohrady.

Weather and Packing Tips: July in Prague is warm, with average temperatures between 18–30°C (64–86°F). While days are mostly sunny, occasional rain showers are possible, so bringing a light jacket or umbrella is advisable. Comfortable walking shoes are also recommended, as the city’s cobblestone streets can be uneven.

Local Transportation & Getting Around: In addition to metro, trams, and buses, Prague’s historic center is very walkable. For visitors preferring taxis or ride-sharing services, Bolt and Uber are widely available and often more affordable than traditional taxis. Bike and e-scooter rentals are also popular for exploring the city.

Currency and Payments: The official currency is the Czech koruna (CZK), though some establishments accept euros (often with an unfavorable exchange rate). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but carrying some cash is useful for smaller shops and public transport ticket machines. Currency exchange offices and ATMs are easily found throughout the city.
